Well, never thought about writing a blog in English. As the topic is really British it might be okay.
I’m not a sci-fi buff. Not really. But I do enjoy watching shows like Star Trek (TOS), SGU, Battlestar Galactica and yes, Doctor Who (the new version, the show started 2005).

In Finland the series is slightly neglected. YLE showed the first season and the Christmas Special where David Tennant was introduced as the Tenth Doctor. Doctor regenerates himself once in awhile. After the first season there was no light as the end of the tunnel. Fortunately the DVD boxes can be easily bought from UK online shops. After seeing season two to five I am currently looking forward in seeing Mark A. Sheppard guest starring during the sixth season.
So - the Doctor. Doctor Who? Yes, that’s how it goes. He is a Time Lord. Last of his kind. He travels in time in his vessel that looks like a blue police box. Oh, and yes, it’s bigger from the inside. This time machine is called the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space). Doctor has a companion.
During the first and second season there was this blonde girl called Rose Tyle (Billie Piper). Third season had Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), fourth season Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and fifth and sixth Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) as Doctor's companion.
Sometimes the twists in plot are too complex for me. I think one of the reasons YLE didn't continue showing the series because it's hard to find a target group for it. It's just not a series for children. Some grown-ups (not me, obviously) might find it too infantile for them. Of course Finland is a small country. But we do have a sci-fi channel, though.
As I practically learned my English from BBC epic dramas and detective stories, I really enjoy seeing British actors guest starring in Doctor Who. During fifth season, for example there were James Corden (Gavin and Stacey's Smithy), Billy Nighy (Love Actually), Iain Glenn (Game of Thrones) and Toby Jones etc.
